Study trip to Lisbon
A few weeks ago, I was on a school trip with my class to Lisbon. We took
the bus from Aarhus to Copenhagen, where we flew to Paris and thereafter to
Lisbon. It was a quite exhausting journey, but it was worth it once we got
there. Lisbon was a wonderful city with great restaurants and great
opportunities to go sightseeing. We
stayed at Equity Point Hostel, which was located in the center of the city.
On the first day we visited the Cathedral Sé, which has a very iconic colorful
round mosaic-window. Later that day we were on a guided tour at the Jeronimos
Monastery. We didn’t have to stand in line to get in, which was very nice. The
monastery was very beautiful, definitely a must-see in Lisbon. Afterwards we
went to the Belem Tower, but the bridge leading us there was so close to the
water, that the waves hit us on the way into the tower. The amazing view from the
top of the tower made it my favorite place in Lisbon.
One day we were going on an African Walk, which was a tour through the city with focus on the African slaves and their history in Lisbon. It was a very long walk, but we definitely learned a lot of new things. Another day we were on a streetart-tour, which I really enjoyed. Our guide was good at explaining things and she made graffiti interesting. For example, I didn’t know there were “rules” in the world of graffiti. It was also a lot of fun trying to make our own graffiti.
One evening the entire class went to hear Fado-music.
The “concert” took place in a cozy basement, where we were served drinks and
snacks. Two men were playing some kind of guitar, and a man and a woman were
singing. Even though the I didn’t understand what the songs were about, I could
still feel the emotion in their voices. It was a very beautiful experience,
that I would love to experience again. We also visited Castello de São Jorge and a
church-ruin called Carmo Vonvent. I loved the Time-Out Market, which was a food
market, where we bought lunch. The weather was quite unpredictable during the
entire trip, but we still had a great time. One evening my friends and I saw
some street musicians. It was a jazz band made up of five men playing different
instruments. It was very entertaining. The best part of the study trip to
Lisbon was off course listening to the amazing podcasts that we had made back
in Denmark.
